Tsongas Industrial History Center at the Lowell National Historic Park

The Tsongas Industrial History Center (TIHC) is an educational partnership between the University of Massachusetts Lowell School of Education and the National Park Service (NPS) at Lowell National Historic Park. The site in Lowell allows visitors to explore mills, canals, worker housing, and historic industrial buildings in the context of labor, immigration, economics, globalization, technology, and societal and environmental impacts.

For Outreach Programs

We partnered with the NPS-TIHC-UMass Lowell team to create a 360 tour substrate within the Boott Cotton Mill complex, specifically the weave room and of key outside areas of the Lowell National Historic Park. Using the panoramic view set, we engaged students from UMass Lowell to curate two virtual experiences: (1) Technology and Worker Safety and (2) Environmental Impacts of Industrialization. These tours incorporate historical photographs sourced primarily from partners and augmented with photos and videos captured by Rtangent at the site.

Two tours: Technology and Worker Safety & Environmental Impacts of Industrialization

The tours are intended to extend the reach of the park by providing remote access to the weave room and the surrounding park. The tours also support pre-visit lessons in association with school field trips and in-school programs. Each tour can be guided by an interpreter or self-served by individual visitors.
