King's Chapel
King's Chapel is an active Christian unitarian congregation in addition to being a historical site on the Freedom Trail, a US National Historic Landmark, and on the US National Register of Historic Places. The stone structure in its current location was completed in 1754 and houses a Revere Bell in the Belfry.
Improving Access to Areas With Physical Barriers
King's Chapel contacted us about creating a virtual analog to their existing on-site historical tours with options to cover architectural elements and aspects of their "Bell and Bones" crypt and belfry tours, which are difficult to access by people with mobility impairments.
Enabling Group Tours Under COVID & Expanding Access to Crypt and Belfry
We engaged with the History Department to capture panoramic views of the Chapel, Gallery, Crypt, Belfry, and outside views including neighboring Burying Ground, and to photograph various memorials that are typically dimly lit in the chapel. The current historical tour narratives were then distilled into workable units and mapped onto the virtual space to replicate the primary tour stops on the physical experience. The final experience includes the primary tour plus options to self-explore in areas not typically offered in person or only as specialty tours (such as the Belfry and the Crypt). The live-guided experience is intended to support visiting virtual group tours and ticket revenue options.
