Supporting Both Live and Archival Exhibitions

Gallery 263 has a rich set of programs involving sometimes rapid turnover of the physical space replacing exhibits with new ones. In this context we deployed the Guided platform to support archival of exhibits for later viewing beyond the exhibit duration, and to support live-curated exhibitions that extend the geographical reach of the organization. A key objective in this setting is to minimize the virtual exhibit production time to allow capture of the displayed art to be achieved very quickly.

Increasing Access Geographically and for People with Mobility Challenges

Gallery 263 is located in a residential neighborhood of Cambridge, MA. Due to its location, there is limited access due to its locale and limited parking. The stairs at to the gallery render the the space inaccessible to persons with disabilities. In addition, Gallery 263 exhibits artists on a national level who cannot always be in Cambridge to support and promote their work. During it's one month long show, LUCID was visited remotely by visitors from 15 states. Of these visitors, 41% were from outside Massachuetts (home of Gallery 263). In context, this out-of-state audience is a population that would not otherwise visit the gallery. In the past year, accross all exhibitions, the use of Guided has enabled more than 800 (virtual) visits that would not have been possible otherwise.
